Obituary for Joy F. Crawford

Joy F. (Davis) Crawford, born 12/26/1929 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, was the daughter of Frances H. (Coombs) and Ralph G. Davis and passed away the evening of 10/3/17 due to lung failure. Joy spent most of her younger years in the Masonic Childrens’ Home, Elizabethtown, PA. While there, she met her future husband, Mason Crawford.
Joy graduated from Elizabethtown High School and then went to Pennsylvania State Business School in Harrisburg, PA. Upon graduation she moved back with her family in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She then obtained a secretarial position in the Credit Department of the Rifkin Furniture conglomerate.
In 1948, she married her childhood sweetheart, Mason Crawford, who had relocated to the Wilkes-Barre area. However, he was unable to find work, so they moved to the Philadelphia area. While there, Joy worked as the Administrative Assistant to the Manager of the Personnel Department of Yale & Town.
In April of 1959, after having 4 children, the family moved into the home they had worked so hard to build on Laurel Road, Southampton, Bucks County, PA., which they loved and became longtime residents. In 1965, her husband opened Crawford Caulking Co. and Joy quit her job to work with him.
For years, Joy was an active member of the township, holding offices in many of the local organizations. She was a Certified Graphoanalyst, a Brownie Leader in 1976, and was named Southampton’s “Woman of The Year”. Working to help build her husband’s business eventually limited the amount she could spend on outside activities. She had joined the Eastern Star, was an active member of Hatboro’s Morning Light Chapter #312, which centered her efforts on providing entertainment, outings and lunches for the ladies in the Eastern Masonic Village in Warminster, PA. She taught an Occupational Therapy class one morning each week and later was elected to the Board of Directors of the Eastern Masonic Village on Norristown Road in Warminster, PA. She became Vice-Chairman of the Board, at the same time served as Property Chairman, and during the expansion acted as Interior Designer for the new addition to the Home.
She served as Chairman of the Board for the Masonic Homes Patton School Alumni Association’s Scholarship Program for 20 years and of The Youth Advisory Board for the Masonic Children’s Home. She has been crocheting hats and blankets for both Abington (22 yrs.) and CHOP Preemie Wards (5 yrs.).
She leaves behind her husband, Mason, and her 4 children, daughters, Jo Crawford (Malia)/husband Ed Malia, and Sandi Joy Crawford (McCool), sons, David Preston Crawford/wife Ellen Crawford, and William Allen Crawford (Deceased), as well as 5 grandchildren, Kevin J. Malia, David P. Malia, Ben C. McCool, Luke C. McCool and Shannon C. McCool and 1 great grandson, Mason Reed Malia.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday evening, October 9, 2017 from 7 to 9 pm at the Kirk & Nice Suburban Chapel, 333 County Line Rd., Feasterville, PA 19053, and on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 9 to 9:30 am, where a funeral service will begin at 9:30 am. Entombment to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joy's memory may be made to The Masonic Village, 850 Norristown, Rd., Warminster,PA 18974.
